The Wine Front is an online wine review and information site run by award winning wine journalist and author Campbell Mattison. With hundreds of wines passing his desk every week, Campbell had this to say about the most recent Turner's Crossing releases: TURNER'S CROSSING CABERNET SAUVIGNON 2005 I like Bendigo cabernet and I liked the Turners Crossing Shiraz of the same vintage, so I was keen to dig this one out. Style, guts, a natural sense of structure and a polished finish - it’s pretty much got it all going on. It tastes of mint and jubes, earth and dried herbs and while there’s evidence of pencilly oak the fruit flavours are the major winners. It’s just slightly, slightly developed - and the good news is that it seems to be heading in a good development direction. It should be a lovely drink in a few year’s time. Rated : 93 Points
TURNER'S CROSSING SHIRAZ VIOGNIER 2006 First time I’ve tasted a Turners Crossing wine - that I can recall - but hopefully won’t be the last. Interestingly for a wine from central Victoria, there’s no real sign of regional mint/eucalypt here. Unusual. The blend for this wine is 95% shiraz, 5% viognier. It’s silken and smooth, that’s for sure. It’s also nicely structured, with long strands of tannin rippling finely through the palate. The flavours are of chocolate, redcurrants, cherries and plums, a lick of sappy character perfectly suited to the wine. It’s not a monster in terms of thickness of flavour - there’s a noticeable sense of ‘finesse’ here - but it’s absolutely ripe too. Well grown, and excellently crafted.
